A "trailer" with music performed by the Golden State Orchestra under the direction of William Stromberg (also available on youtube). Animation and colorization by Mark Thompsen, Kerry Gammill, and Ted Newsom, all lovingly combined under the "Fair Use" clause of the Copyright Act regarding "Derivative Works" and parody.

This is a reconstruction of the original length theatrical trailer to ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN. All extant prints are of the 1956 Realart reissue which is trimmed. Unfortunately, David Vaile's first narration line, "What a grand new idea in fun - and what a bargain in entertainment!" is still missing in action.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is a 1948 American horror comedy film directed by Charles Barton and starring the comedy team of Abbott and Costello. The picture is the first of several films in which the comedy duo meets classic characters from Universal's horror film stable. In this film, they encounter Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi), Frankenstein's monster (Glenn Strange), and the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.). Subsequent films pair the duo with the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the Mummy. (The comedians interacted with the last of the Universal Studios monsters, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, on live television on the Colgate Comedy Hour in 1954.) This film is considered the swan song for the "Big Three" Universal horror monsters, none of whom had appeared in a Universal film since House of Dracula (1945).

Halloween Night, 1984 at Oak Acres Amphitheatre. This is the Full Show with Intermission Skit. Enjoy.
Featuring John Murphy as Abbott and Ric Swain as Costello. With Dena Brinkley, James Maynard, Susan Neely, Virgil Phelps, Adrian Martinez, Grover Coulson, Pat Dias, Dwight Welsh, Ronnie Franks, Tricia Franks, Linda Boydston.

(Note: Some parts are pretty dark. I've lightened the footage up as much as I can.)

Bud and Lou find themselves in the dungeon of an old castle...
...along with the Frankenstein Monster and Dracula.

Much of the action involves a secret revolving door in the wall...
...which is turned from behind by an unseen stagehand.

Except that in one shot, the stagehand isn't quite "unseen."

I neither own nor claim any rights to this material. Just having some fun with it. Thanks for watching!

CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Dracula (Bela Lugosi) wakes the Frankenstein monster (Glenn Strange), the monster is frightened by Wilbur (Lou Costello) in a trance.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
It seems that Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi), in league with a beautiful but diabolical lady scientist (Lenore Aubert), needs a "simple, pliable" brain with which to reactivate Frankenstein's creature (Glenn Strange). The "ideal" brain belongs to the hapless Lou Costello, whom the lady doctor woos to gain his confidence and lure him to the operating table. Lawrence Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr.), better known as the Wolf Man, arrives on the scene to warn Costello and his pal Bud Abbott of Dracula's nefarious schemes. Throughout the film, the timorous Costello witnesses the nocturnal rituals of Dracula and the Monster, but can't convince the ever-doubting Abbott--until the wild climax in Dracula's castle, where the comedians are pursued by all three of the film's monstrosities. As a bonus, the Invisible Man (voiced by an unbilled Vincent Price) shows up for "all the excitement."

CREDITS:
TM & © Universal (1948)
Cast: Lou Costello, Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange
Director: Charles Barton
Producer: Robert Arthur
Screenwriters: John Grant, Robert Lees, Bram Stoker, Frederic I. Rinaldo, Mary Shelley
